Proposed Elevator Pitch points:
- OWF has produced a Final Spec Agreement that you can use in your community to ensure that your specs can be used by the widest scope of adopters, from Open Source implementers to corporate users, with a high level of assurance that they will not be sued by contributors to the spec for patent infringement.
- Just like the Apache Software License (or other open source licenses) can be applied to any code project, the OWF FSA can be applied to any specification, assuming the contributors all want the spec to be freely implementable without patent concerns. However, it is not a guarantee that a 3rd party has no patent claims.
- The FSA requires/implies no specific process, though the OWF will be producing Community License agreement to aid communities in setting up a light weight legal structure up front.
- The FSA is intended to make it easy to contribute specs to formal standards bodies, if that is what your community wants to pursue.
